When I first sat down to write A Twin Like You, I wasn’t thinking about page counts or rhyming lines. I was thinking about my sons.
They’re fraternal twins. They don’t look alike. They don’t always play the same way. One might be climbing a couch while the other is lining up toy cars. But every day, I see the magic in their bond. It’s in the way they look for each other. It’s in the way they love: differently, but deeply.

Most children’s books about twins focus on sameness: matching outfits, identical smiles, speaking in unison. But my reality, and the reality of so many twin families, looks different.
That’s why I wrote A Twin Like You, a board book for toddlers that celebrates difference, love, and connection. It’s a gentle rhyme-driven story designed for ages 0–7, with vibrant illustrations that reflect real-life twin dynamics: the harmony and the hiccups.
Where the Story Began
As a twin mom and a Caribbean-American woman, representation matters to me. My favorite book in childhood was a personalized Christmas story about Santa coming all the way to Tacarigua, Trinidad to take me on a tour of his workshop. I felt so seen, and so special that the book was about me. I still have this book, all these years later.

I wanted my boys to have the same feeling, so I wrote a book that’s warm, inclusive, and true. I wanted children, especially twins who are fraternal, mixed-race, or just wonderfully unique to see themselves on the page.
Each line was written with my children in mind, but also with your family in heart. Whether your twins are quiet and bold, sensory-seeking and sensitive, or just finding their way in the world, this book says: You belong. You are loved. You’re not the same, but you’re a pair.
The Creative Process
The writing came in bursts. Usually after bedtime or in the quiet morning hours. Finding the right rhythm and rhyme took time. I wanted the words to sound musical when read aloud, but never forced. Every line had to carry meaning and emotion.
The illustrations went through several rounds to make sure they felt playful and real. We worked closely with the artist to depict both movement and stillness, because sometimes one twin is racing ahead, while the other is quietly observing. Both are beautiful. Both deserve space.
A Book With a Mission

A Twin Like You is more than a children’s book about twins. It’s a story that honors individuality, celebrates sibling connection, and opens the door to early conversations about inclusion. It’s perfect for:
- Parents of twins (especially fraternal)
- Toddlers just beginning to understand family dynamics
- Classrooms and speech therapy offices looking for diverse, inclusive books
- Gift-givers looking for something heartfelt and meaningful
And because it’s a sturdy board book, it’s made to last through snack time, story time, and sticky fingers.
Why This Book Matters
As a mom, I know how powerful it is when a child sees themselves in a story. It says, You matter. That’s what I hope this book offers to every twin, every sibling, and every grown-up reading along.
Thanks for being part of the journey. If A Twin Like You resonates with your family, I’d love for you to share it and help more twin stories get the spotlight they deserve.
